Dr. Richard J. Martin has lived most of his life in Idaho. He attended BSU as a business major, then later attended the University of Utah obtaining a degree in biology. He went on to Medical school at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine where he graduated among the top in his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He continued his surgery specialty training in residency at the University of Arizona. He then returned to Idaho and joined Advanced Surgery of Idaho in 2000.
Dr. Martin is Board Certified in General Surgery. He has served in numerous positions aimed at improving medical care for our community including Chief of the Medical Staff at West Valley Medical Center. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery. His particular areas of interest include laparoscopic surgery for abdominal wall hernia. He also specializes in laparoscopic treatment of colon disease such as diverticulitis and cancer. These minimally invasive procedures have dramatically decreased hospital stays, recovery time, and post operative discomfort.
